The story start with the captures the intense embarrassment and self-consciousness felt by Elnora as she navigates her first day at the high school: "At least they could put her out if she did not belong there."In the story, Wesley and Margaret Sinton, filled with concern for Elnora, embark on a mission to provide her with the necessities for school. They encounter uncertainty in choosing appropriate clothing but are guided by the appearance of high school girls at a store. Margaret's heartfelt explanation to the girls about their intentions and the situation regarding Elnora showcases her empathy and determination to support the young girl despite her own personal losses. it ends in the moment when Elnora's mother arrives on the island, followed by Philip Ammon proposing to Elnora.
