"Please, Robb, I'm begging you.

I didn't have anything to do with the child being poisoned. I've never even touched him!"

Rain was pouring in the early winter as the piercing cold wind swept through the city. The sky was overcast. Even in the daytime, the entire villa had to be brightly lit.

Janette Mao knelt on the ground, clutching the man's trousers. Her face was black and blue—someone had slapped her hard. Her wet clothes clung to her body, and the blood on her forehead fell from her cheek along with the rain.

"Robb, don't let yourself get swayed. She's the only one who got anywhere near Edward." Nicole Xi stood aside, spite written all over her face. It was actually she who had poisoned Edward Xi and put the blame on Janette Mao. There was no way Janette Mao was able to get away with this.

"Fuck off!" As Robb Xi stepped back, Janette Mao lost her balance, falling to the ground rather awkwardly.

The coldness entered her body. A chill ran down her spine as she felt his murderous aura envelope her.

She had been in love with Robb Xi for ten years. She didn't expect him to treat her like this.

Edward Xi was Kelly Xia's son. Besides, Janette Mao didn't even hurt Edward Xi. Why wasn't anyone believing her?

"Janette, no one can save you this time. You deserve to die."

Robb Xi bent down, a cold look on his face.

He then tore off his trouser.

"Anything touched by you is disgusting to me!" he spat, visibly sickened. He avoided her like the plague.

He threw the cloth on the ground as he turned to go back to the villa, his servants following him behind. Despair filled Janette's heart.

The door was slammed shut.

Nicole Xi approached Janette Mao and got on her knees, looking the latter in the eye.

Without warning, she stood back up and stepped on Janette's hand. Before Janette Mao could make a sound, Martina Xu covered her mouth with her hand.

Her cry for help was muffled.

"I don't care if you're from the Mao family. To me, you're nothing but an insect I can just step on.

I said I was going to dethrone you from your position as Mr. Xi.

I did it, right?

Stay away from Robb or I can't guarantee you that I'm going to spare your life."

Nicole Xi narrowed her eyes with a malicious smile.

"Nicole, did you do it? Were you the one who poisoned Edward?" Janette Mao was on the verge of collapsing.

"So what? Are you going to tell my brother? He won't believe you."

Nicole Xi was calm and collected. Gracefully tinkering with her earring, she said smugly, "Martina, please teach my sister-in-law a lesson."

"Nicole Xi, I'll kill you!" Janette Mao rose from the ground, her hair disheveled as she grabbed Nicole Xi by the neck.

Nicole Xi's face turned red as she slapped Janette Mao, her fingernails scratching her face. However, Janette Mao remained unfazed.

"Mr. Xi, Mrs. Xi has gone crazy! She's going to kill Miss Xi!

Ahh! Mr. Xi, she's dying!"

Martina Xu wailed, successfully attracting the attention of the servants nearby.

Flustered, Janette Mao began to comprehend how insane she must have seemed. She quickly withdrew her hands upon this realization.

"You want to kill Miss Xi, you lunatic!"

A servant beat Janette Mao with a stick.

Dejected, she couldn't believe how snobbish these servants were.

"Nicole, Robb is your brother." Janette Mao was in disbelief—Nicole Xi couldn't have possibly fallen in love with Robb Xi, her own brother.

"So what? Are you forgetting that we're not blood-related? My mother got married to his father, and then I changed my surname to Xi."

Nicole Xi retreated a few steps until she was standing behind a servant, still mildly afraid.

"How dare you talk to Miss Xi like that?!"

Wanting to please Nicole Xi, Martina Xu raised her hand and slapped Janette Mao across the face.

Janette Mao spat out a mouthful of blood as her eyes darted around the area. She couldn't believe she had wasted two whole years of her life here.

"Martina Xu, don't forget that I'm still from the Mao family."

Despite the Mao family's recent decline, that still didn't change the fact that it was a huge family. It was a piece of cake for Janette Mao to get rid of Martina Xu.

Upon hearing this, the smile on Martina Xu's face instantly froze. She turned to Nicole Xi for help.

"What are you doing?" The door of the villa opened quietly. Robb Xi stood by the door with one hand shoved inside his pocket. He cast a cold glance at Nicole Xi before fixing his eyes on Janette Mao.

Janette Mao stiffened up under his sharp gaze.

"Robb, Janette's crazy. She wanted to kill me."

Nicole Xi suddenly fell to the ground, tears welling up in her eyes.

Janette Mao raised her head and brazenly stared Robb Xi down.

"Janette, are you trying to get yourself killed?"

Robb Xi strode towards Nicole Xi and helped her up.

Janette Mao smiled bitterly as she watched Nicole Xi.

"Robb, what do I need to do to gain your trust? I've been married to you for two years now. I treat Edward as if he was my own child. What more do you want?

I'm not asking for anything else. I just want you to trust me."

Janette Mao balled her hands into fists, feeling utterly frustrated that the marriage she had worked so hard on was slowly crumbling right in front of her very eyes.

"Janette, Kelly's coming back and you know that,"

Robb Xi whispered in her ear, a knowing smile on his face. Janette Mao could feel his hot breath on her face.

Kelly Xia had left because of an accident. Now that she would come back,

Robb Xi wanted to divorce Janette Mao and marry her.

In a trance, Janette fainted, falling into a heap on the ground. The last thing she saw was the cold look on Robb Xi's face.

At the police station of A City

"Hey, wake up."

Janette Mao grimaced from the pain.

"How long are you going to act dead?

Get up!"

the man said in a huff, visibly losing his patience as he kicked her.

She squinted her eyes, blinded by the sudden beam of light.

"Where am I?" Her throat felt dry so when she spoke, her voice was hoarse. Curled up in the corner, she looked around to check where she was.

"You offended Robb Xi. Where else would you expect to be?"

The police heaved a sigh of relief when Janette Mao finally woke up. She was sent here by Robb Xi, and she couldn't die after all.

"This is the police station. You were arrested for intentional homicide."

The detention room seemed to have been specifically changed for her sake. The room was almost completely bare and sound-proof. The only source of light in the room was solely directed towards her.

She was wearing a thin set of pajamas that had been stained with blood, her exposed skin virtually being burnt by the strong light.

"I want to see Robb Xi!"

Smiling faintly, she attempted to get up with her back against the wall. The back of her hand still hurt.
