"Where is that so-called douchebag?"
"Why can't I find him in the kitchen?"
"Get the hell out of your bed, you lazy ass. Adrian!"
Adrian staggered up from the bed and groaned out with a frustrated look on his face as he got interrupted by the scream and ranting of his wife's mother, his mother-in-law.
He rubbed his head with a sigh. "Not again," he mumbled and took a deep breath as his gaze landed on the crutches standing by the wall side beside the bed.
"What are you doing there, Adrian? Get your lazy butt out of that bed," he bit his lower lips and looked up at his mother-in-law, Brianna, who was standing by the door with a cold and fierce expression on her face.
He swallowed the lump in his throat as his gaze landed on the expression that was on her face. She wasn't here to play games with him. She looked serious.
"Good morning mum. Hope..." he couldn't finish his statement when he got interrupted by her.
"What's good about the morning, huh? Tell me."
"I woke up this morning and found out that you haven't done anything today."
"The room is untied. The dirty plates in the kitchen haven't been washed. Why haven't you cleaned the room? What have you been doing?" She asked.
"As you can see, I just woke up and besides, I was washing the plate last night before I got tired," he replied in a calm tone, not aware that his response had gotten her angry.
"And so? What if you got tired? Who cares? Even if you die, I don't care. And besides, you do everything I say in this house even my daughter who is your wife can't dispute that," she yelled at him and he swallowed hard.
He didn't know what to say to her. It wasn't a new thing to him so he wasn't sad. He was only heartbroken. He was used to her curses, her maltreatment, and humiliation. He wished it could stop but he knew it wasn't going to be soon.
"What else do you want me to do? Why do you hate me so much? I have always tried my best to satisfy you but you don't appreciate any of it," he said out of frustration and she gnashed her teeth.
"How dare you talk back to me, huh? You've grown wings, right?" She asked in a cold tone, her eyes were burning with anger.
He looked away and clenched the crutches so he wouldn't lose his stamina and fall.
"Whatever you put it but I'm just..." he couldn't finish the statement when her left hand landed on his right cheek.
Bang! She slapped him fiercely on the face and he lost his grip on the crutches and then crashed hard on the floor with a heavy thud.
She was pissed off. Not only has he been eating the food without bringing anything to the table but he also has the guts to talk to her whenever she's talking.
She didn't like that. All she wanted was to be dominant. And besides, she never asked for a son-in-law who's handicapped.
He shuddered and whined in pain as his legs snapped and his left leg that hit the floor burned with excruciating pain.
He bit his lower lips as he tried to control the tears that threatened to pour down from his eyes.
No, he wouldn't cry. He wouldn't cry because of his mother-in-law who is keen on making his life miserable.
"Why did you hit me?" He complained with an angry look on his face and she laughed at him mockingly.
"Because you deserve it you b*tch. Just a push and you're on the floor. Are you even a man?" She asked and laughed again before her countenance changed and became cold.
"You can't keep doing this to me. I'm a man," he yelled out of frustration and she scoffed.
"Prove it to me. Stand up and prove to me that you're a man," she said and he took a deep breath before reaching out to the crutches on the floor beside him.
She walked closer to him and kicked the crutches away before he could get it. "Not with that," she smiled and he threw his head backward in defeat.
There was nothing he could do anymore.
"Give me that," he muttered and crawled with difficulty to get the crutches from her.
That was the only way he could stand. He was no longer himself.
"Please ma'am," he muttered and she scoffed.
"Whatever," she rolled her eyes and threw the crutches at him. He squeezed his face and clenched his fist tightly as the crutches hit his face.
"Now get up and do what you're supposed to do," she said and walked away till she got to the door and stopped then turned to him.
"I wonder what my daughter needs in a crippled and handicapped man like you."
"Well, that is going to change very soon," she said and he arched his eyebrows.
"What do you mean?" He asked but she ignored him and walked away.
It's such a pity that she was rubbing his bad condition on his face even though he became handicapped because of her daughter.
He took a deep breath, gripped the crutches on the floor firmly, and staggered back to his feet.
With the help of his crutches, he walked out of his room and entered the kitchen.
He picked the dirty plates from the floor, dropped them on the washing basin, and began to wash them.
By the time he was done washing the plate, he was exhausted because of his condition but he couldn't stop because he was yet to finish the work he was supposed to do.
He picked up the broom and started to sweep the floor. He struggled to sweep the floor because one of his hands was gripping the crutches for support while the other one was holding the broom.
The maids in the house could only watch him do the house chores because his mother-in-law, Brianna, had instructed them not to clean the house.
They wish they could help him but they dare not dispute Brianna's word because she isn't someone to be trifled with.
Just when he was about to finish cleaning the floor, the door creaked open and his wife stepped inside the room.
A smile formed on his face as he stared at her face.
"Welcome back home..." The smile wiped off from his lips as his gaze landed on her hand and he discovered that another man was holding his wife's hand.
His wife, Sandra, brought another man home without his permission.
"Who is he?" Sandra and the man, who was beside her, frowned when her husband, Adrian, directed the question to her.
Adrian clenched and bit on his lower lips as he stared at her intensely, impatiently waiting for her response.
She squeezed out a smile and muttered to ease the tension that was pressuring the atmosphere. "He's my business partner so there's nothing to worry about. He's Mr. Brian."
He nodded his head and dropped the broom on the floor. She glared at him disdainfully as her gaze landed on the broom that was in his hand before he dropped it.
"Oh! That's fine. My name is..." his wife's business partner interrupted him before he could finish his statement.
"Andrew, her incapable and handicapped husband, right? Yes, she told me a lot about you. It's nice meeting you anyway," Brian said, and his eyes darkened in anger when he heard the statement.
Just like abusing him wasn't enough, he also placed his arms around her waist.
