Chapter 1 THE ARRIVAL OF THE STRANGE

ALYCE

I'm the only offspring remaining in the Aspargang pack...

I'm the only offspring remaining in the Aspargang pack...

I'm the only offspring remaining in the Aspargang pack...

I kept on saying these words while tears trickled down my eyes. I can remember when I grew up and all I worried about was avoiding my parents.

I kept reassuring myself that I would find a way.

I could still hear the last words of my parents ringing in my ears.

'Run, Alyce'

'Run and don't look back'

Without anything, I took off my heels and ran for my life because the rival pack was already closing in and murdering everyone and everything on sight.

An entire pack was about to be wiped out and the only way out was a tunnel that passes through the town deep into the outskirts of the town.

I ran with fear and my heart raced faster than a leopard's speed.

All I wanted was to survive and avenge my parent's death.

With little information on the rival pack that carried out this attack, all I wanted to do was survive long enough to find out.

I lost everything in the war and I managed to survive with wounds and scars which will leave on.

All I have to do now is survive!

Silver Valley was up ahead by a few miles. I could see it from up ahead and there was one of the secluded werewolf towns ruled by an Alpha I'm familiar with, Kyle.

Years ago, Kyle was just a lone wolf who was attacked by the Alpha in my pack because he was suspected of luring the females using the guise of training them.

Kyle's intention was to find a path for him. Kyle's plan was to seek inclusion into the pack but the elders were not having him.

Kyle came from a bloodline of rogue wolves and that was not a nice image.

I remember asking my mother why the Elders never allowed a new member to join the pack and all she responded was

'My dear, you will understand when you grow up!

I was just a child then!

Will he remember me? I thought to myself.

What if he remembers me? What should I say?

Will I be accepted?

Will they cast me away?

Many questions but with no answers to them. As I arrived at the Silver Valley town gate, I could see a bustling town with people up and about their business. The beautiful greenery and clear-cut sky was just too beautiful to ignore.

I was lost in thinking about how a deep voice calls out until a deep male voice dragged my attention in a split second and the next thing I heard was,

Hey, who are you? A deep male voice echoes from a distance in the surrounding bushes.

It was clear that it was the town's security because of how they were dressed.

One, a middle-aged tall black man with a thick Afro and an obvious build, and the other, a white middle aged man with thick beards and long hair flowing down to shoulder level.

They both glanced at me while walking towards me.

A bit tense.. I took a pause

My name is Lhena Doss from the Eastland. I'm here to seek refuge for survival.

I lost my parents in an attack and I don't have any family to go back to. I said with a face filled with tears and emotions.

Yes, I would like to lie. My family name is a popular one and if I use it, I will definitely be spotted and arrested.

Your bags... The white man said, stretching out his hands.

While the black man hovered around me, hoping to catch a scent.

If there's one thing my parents thought of me that I'd never forget, it was how to stay hidden and unnoticeable.

Burn the silver-gray wormwood,

Hover the smell from the surrounding wood.

And that, my daughter will keep you unnoticeable. My father will echo.

And it always works!

Welcome to Silver Valley. The deep male voice shook me back to reality.

Go in and ask Dave. He will lecture you on the rules of the town.

And one last thing, MIND YOUR BUSINESS!!

But what is really my business? You will soon find out.

Dave is a Beta in the Pack. He is in-charge of integrating new members in the town and one of his duties is assigning jobs to new members.

You will work at a local bookstore. He gave me a death stare with his slivering gray eyes and signaled to follow him.

I took a job at a local bookstore which required managing book supply flow to the Alpha's Chambers, which would allow her access to Alpha while secretly investigating the pack's hierarchy.

I would go on an errand to the Alpha Kyle Chamber. He would stare at me deeply, almost like he saw me.

Call me Dave. Kyle signaled to one of the guards.

There's something off about this new intake, the way she moves. The way she talks.

You called me? Dave walks in

Yes. The new intake? What do we really know about her?

She's from the Eastland. She lost both her parents and was sent to exile. She..

Exile?...Kyle cut in immediately, almost as though all she said to gain access was all a lie.

A pretty lady can do anything to gain access. My father will always say. Look beyond the beauty! It's a Cloak.

Dave, do you believe her? With my chin in between my thumb and first finger.

Yes, I do. Dave answered without hesitation, staring deeply into Kyle's eyes.

I will find out for myself. Kyle responded

I just have to meet her when her guards are low and strike the question.

She will be caught off guard.

The perfect time? After her hours at work just when she's taking a walk home.

I could smell a scent from afar. The scent seemed to be following me, and it got more intense and moving towards me.

Scared a bit, I turned to the next block, hoping to escape from the person.

Hello Lhena. A deep male voice called from behind.

Slowly, I turned around to see these tall figures, hazel-brown eyes with long hair and thick beards. He had a strong build and was definitely more scary up close than afar.

It was the Alpha, and it was the first time I had ever seen this up close.

Good-evening Sir. I said, bowing my head while he approached.

He stares at me, circling around me and sniffing around and hoping to catch a scent.

His eyes are glowing, and his approach is getting cold.

Who really are you?
