Emilia Torres swore to never cross the line between professional and personal life again. However, the romance with her billionaire boss took her by surprise. Adrián Vega entered her life and she couldn't resist: he noticed her beauty, and she sought the professional success that came with working for him. She never thought of falling in love again, but life had other plans for her. The relationship went well until her ex-husband, Mateo Ortega, returned to their lives. Adrián's jealousy was well-founded, not only because Mateo had set his sights on winning Emilia back, but because he had been her partner in the past and betrayed him. She didn't trust him and knew he wouldn't hesitate to hurt her again. Emilia was torn between staying with Adrián or trying again with Mateo, which caused her boss to lose control and attack his enemy. Amidst their rivalries, she received a proposal she couldn't refuse: to be his forever, by agreeing to marry Adrián. Amidst timelines, secrets from the past, and a tension that simmers even in silence, Under the Same Contract explores what happens when two broken hearts must sign more than just an agreement... one that could change their lives forever.

Chapter 1 She's Mine

The rain fell heavily on the streets of Estilo Capital, lashing the windows of Adrián Vega's luxurious office. The drops hit the glass furiously, causing the city to blur into a blur of light and shadow. The constant sound of falling water was the only thing heard in the room, an absolute silence that seemed deeper than it was.

Adrián stood by the window, gazing at the city while his thoughts raced, overflowing like a river that could no longer be stopped. The storm battering the city was nothing compared to the internal turmoil raging in his mind. He knew what he had to do, but uncertainty ate at him inside. Was he making the right decision? Was revenge what he truly desired, or was it the inevitable consequence of feeling cornered?

The ringing of a phone interrupted his thoughts. He looked at it but didn't answer. This wasn't the time to talk to anyone. Not when Mateo's shadow stalked him again. Mateo, his former friend and partner, a man who had once been his ally, now represented everything Adrián detested: betrayal, manipulation, and the corruption of what had once been a relationship of trust.

The CEO of Grupo Vega had held back for months. He'd let time take its course, emotions settle, anger dissipate. But now, the time had come. Mateo had crossed the line, entering personal territory. Not only had he manipulated Adrián's business dealings, but he'd also stalked Emilia, the woman Adrián was beginning to see differently. The constant threat Mateo posed to her had made him feel powerless and vulnerable. And worst of all, he wasn't sure if Emilia felt the same way about him.

"If I don't stop him now..." Adrián thought as his fingers caressed the cold surface of the glass. "I won't just lose Emilia, I'll lose everything I've built."

At that moment, a feeling of fear ran through his body. It wasn't the common fear of facing a rival. No, what terrified him was the idea of losing control, of becoming a puppet of his own feelings. Adrián had learned to be the man everyone admired: calculating, relentless, always one step ahead. But what he felt for Emilia was tearing him apart inside. There was something about her that disarmed him, something that made him doubt himself.

The meeting with Mateo was scheduled for midnight, in a secluded place on the outskirts of the city. Adrián knew Mateo would choose a place that would give him a false sense of security, a ruined building, one of those that time had forgotten. The perfect place for a dirty confrontation. But Adrián had already decided that this time the rules were different. This time, there would be no negotiation.

He left his office, his step firm, but his mind filled with doubt. As he walked down the hallway of the corporate tower, the sound of his footsteps seemed to amplify, as if each one represented a step into the unknown. The city was asleep, but Adrián knew that what he was about to do would change his life forever.

Upon reaching the parking lot, he walked to his car, a sleek black model, and started the engine. The city lights slowly disappeared, leaving behind a darkness that seemed to envelop him. The deserted road stretched out before him, like a straight line leading him straight toward confrontation. He couldn't help but feel a slight pressure in his chest, a mix of anxiety and uncertainty that made him question whether he was taking the right path. But there was no turning back now.

Every mile he advanced seemed to take him further away from what he knew and closer to what he feared most: facing the truth of his own feelings. Was Emilia simply a game of emotions, or something more? The question tormented him as he drove, the sound of the engine and the pounding of the rain creating an atmosphere that felt increasingly suffocating. Fear gripped him, not because of the confrontation with Mateo, but because of what he represented. What he was about to do would not only affect his relationship with his former partner, but also his relationship with Emilia. Could he really trust her? Was she who she seemed to be?

Upon arriving at the agreed-upon location, an old building that had seen better days, Adrian braked abruptly. It was pitch black, save for the shadows cast by the building's ruins. The tension in the air was palpable, as if the city itself were holding its breath. Adrian adjusted his suit, his gaze steady and determined. It didn't matter what happened in that room. It didn't matter how much he feared. He had already made his decision.

He got out of the car and walked toward the building's entrance. His footsteps echoed in the void, creating an echo that amplified the loneliness he felt. As he approached the entrance, uncertainty invaded him again. What would happen after this confrontation? Would he be able to live with the consequences of what he was about to do?

When he entered the building, it was almost total darkness. Only the faint moonlight illuminated the space, creating long, strange shadows. There, in the center of the room, stood Mateo. His figure stood out against the dark background, his arrogant smile illuminated by the faint light that filtered through the cracks.

"Adrián, what a surprise," Mateo said, in his mocking tone. "I thought we'd never have any more encounters. Have you regretted what you did to me?"

Adrián didn't reply. Instead, he walked slowly toward him, his steps firm, but each one laden with uncertainty. The tension in the air was palpable. The two men stared at each other, but it was as if neither of them was really seeing the other. What Adrian felt wasn't hate, not even rage. What he felt was something deeper, something he didn't know how to describe.

"This isn't just a business matter, Mateo," Adrian finally said, his voice low and grave, but clear. "This is personal."

Mateo took a step back, surprising Adrian. It seemed that, for the first time, Mateo was beginning to feel the pressure of the situation. His face hardened as he prepared to face whatever Adrian had to say.

Without warning, Adrian moved forward and pushed Mateo against the wall. The sound of the impact echoed in the void, and for an instant, time seemed to stand still. Mateo glared at Adrian, the fury in his eyes replaced by a trace of fear. But Adrian didn't give in. He wouldn't give in.

"Emilia is mine," Adrian said, his voice cold and cutting. "If you touch her again, there'll be nothing left of you."

Mateo tried to break free, struggling, but Adrian held him still, his arm tight around his neck. Mateo's breathing was ragged, filled with desperation.

"What are you going to do, Adrian? Are you going to kill me?" he asked, in a different tone, no longer contemptuous, but filled with dread.

Adrian suddenly let go, pushing him back hard, causing him to fall to the ground. As Mateo stood up, still panting, Adrian was already turning to leave, leaving behind a trail of uncertainty.

"If you ever go near her again," he said without turning around, "there will be no 'afterward.'"

As he returned to his car, Adrian took a deep breath, feeling the adrenaline begin to subside. Although he had achieved what he had set out to do, he couldn't shake the feeling of uncertainty. Was this the right way to handle things? What he had done, although necessary, had left him with more questions than answers. Night had fallen, and with it, the shadow of what was to come. But Adrian knew there was no turning back. And uncertainty, though it tormented him, was the only certainty he had left.
