I have been married to Huo Yanli for two years, but I have constantly suffered from his disdain, emotional abuse, and psychological torment. He even plans to use my first night as a bet in a card game.
For two years since our marriage, I had never truly felt like his wife.
Whenever I made an attempt to draw near, he would repel me with evident revulsion.
He alleged that I was a carrier of germs that could infect him.
The moment my hand accidentally brushed against his, he would hurry into the bathroom and scrub it repeatedly.
I used to think he had a cleanliness fetish. That was until I spotted the lipstick mark on his shirt collar and overheard him saying to a friend on the phone, "Touch her? She's revolting."
It dawned on me that it wasn't a matter of him being obsessive-compulsive about cleanliness; he simply considered me repulsive.
Then, on that rainy night, I chanced upon his phone conversation, "Playing cards on a holiday, what should we bet on? Let's bet on Trista's first night. It's a waste to leave it unused anyway..."
At that moment, my heart completely shattered.

At eleven o'clock at night, Osmond Jennings still hadn't returned.
I walked to the liquor cabinet and poured myself half a glass of red wine, downing it in one go.
The sound of the door lock turning reached my ears.
Osmond pushed the door open, his suit jacket draped over his arm, his tie loosely undone, and a hint of weariness in his eyes.
I was wearing nothing but a black lace lingerie set.
The silky fabric barely concealed the vital areas. The thin straps rested on my delicate skin, highlighting my slender waist and long legs.
It was the first time I had made such a bold attempt to seduce him.
I approached him, my voice trembling softly, "Tonight, can we not sleep in separate rooms?"
He glanced at me coldly.
I thought he might be moved, but the next second, he grabbed my wrist with such force it felt like he might crush my bones.
"Trista, are you shameless?"
I was stunned.
He let out a cold laugh, dragging me straight into the bathroom, turning on the shower. The icy water drenched me instantly.
I shivered from the cold.
"Dressed like this, you want me to take you?" He pinched my chin, forcing me to look at him. "Too bad, you disgust me."
Tears streamed down my face, but I stubbornly held my head high. "I'm your wife. What's wrong with wanting to be close to you?"
"Wife?" He sneered, "Do you even deserve that title?"
He released me, took a bottle of cleaning solution from the cabinet, and poured it into the bathtub.
The pungent smell filled the air. I instinctively stepped back, but he pushed me into the water.
"Stay there." He commanded coldly.
I froze in place, incredulous. "What?"
"Recite the traditional virtues expected of women." He looked at me expressionlessly. "Miss a word, and you'll stay there until morning."
I closed my eyes, choking back sobs. "A woman should be virtuous and gentle..."
Halfway through, I noticed a red mark on his collarbone, like a woman's lipstick stain.
I paused, instinctively reaching out to touch it. "You have something here..."
He shook off my hand with disgust.
I gasped in pain.
"Trista!" He enunciated each word, "You have no right to question me."
With that, he flung my hand away and stormed out, slamming the door behind him.
I collapsed in the bathtub, the cleaning solution stinging my skin, but the pain was nothing compared to his words.
In that instant, I suddenly understood.
He wasn't obsessed with cleanliness, nor did he hate being touched.
He just despised me.
And I had foolishly believed that if I were enticing enough, compliant enough, he would eventually want to touch me.
How ridiculous.

My world revolved around Jax Harding, my older brother's captivating rockstar friend. From sixteen, I adored him; at eighteen, I clung to his casual promise: "When you're 22, maybe I'll settle down." That offhand comment became my life's beacon, guiding every choice, meticulously planning my twenty-second birthday as our destiny. But on that pivotal day in a Lower East Side bar, clutching my gift, my dream exploded. I overheard Jax' s cold voice: "Can't believe Savvy's showing up. She' s still hung up on that stupid thing I said." Then the crushing plot: "We' re gonna tell Savvy I' m engaged to Chloe, maybe even hint she' s pregnant. That should scare her off." My gift, my future, slipped from my numb fingers. I fled into the cold New York rain, devastated by betrayal. Later, Jax introduced Chloe as his "fiancée" while his bandmates mocked my "adorable crush"-he did nothing. As an art installation fell, he saved Chloe, abandoning me to severe injury. In the hospital, he came for "damage control," then shockingly shoved me into a fountain, leaving me to bleed, calling me a "jealous psycho." How could the man I loved, who once saved me, become this cruel and publicly humiliate me? Why was my devotion seen as an annoyance to be brutally extinguished with lies and assault? Was I just a problem, my loyalty met with hatred? I would not be his victim. Injured and betrayed, I made an unshakeable vow: I was done. I blocked his number and everyone connected to him, severing ties. This was not an escape; this was my rebirth. Florence awaited, a new life on my terms, unburdened by broken promises.
