Accidentally Raising The CEO's Baby Chapter 5 Let's Go Home

Grace rolled her neck and stretched her sore back muscles as her fingers stroked Liam’s hair. The child was sleeping on her lap and as she ran her hand through his hair, she remembered that he was in desperate need of a bath. Half of his body was on the chair while the rest was in her lap. She must have been extremely uncomfortable in the position, but he was too tired to stay awake.

They were in the sitting room of the Cornwell Justice Department, a building where prosecutors and police officers had their offices in the same building. The Cornwell Police Department had its main branch there. Grace’s mother had gone into the Chief of Police’s office as soon as they arrived, almost three hours ago.

The Police Chief was a friend of her mother’s since their college days. Olivia could have been a police officer easily had her husband forced her to quit law school and told her to get a less stressful job. The lower pay might have saved their marriage, but it was a good thing the situation hadn’t headed that way.

Grace sighed heavily before closing her eyes. The day seemed to drag on. After she got off the phone with her mother, the girls decided to take Liam shopping for a pair of clothes and buy him a few toys that would keep him preoccupied until Olivia arrived. Knowing her mom, she risked speed limits to get to them quicker. The thought brought a smile to Grace’s lips.

Accidentally Raising The CEO's Baby Chapter 6 Find His Daddy

Grace sank with relief. She had grown attached to the little boy over the past half a day. She gently lifted his upper body and shifted him so that his head lay on her shoulder. She jostled him gently so that he wouldn’t wake up and put his legs around her waist. She rubbed his back soothingly when he made a whining sound in his sleep and felt a smile spread across her lips.

“We need to get him a car seat and seat belt,” Grace thought out loud.

“I already placed an order for those online. We can pick it up from the store tomorrow morning.” She paused. “With how exhausted both of us are, I booked a hotel room nearby. Our house is too far from here. Even if she starst driving now, it will take at least an hour to arrive home.”

Grace nodded and smiled gratefully. She wouldn’t feel comfortable taking Liam in the car without securing him in a car seat. Olivia helped her up and his her hand on the small of Grace’s back to support her. Grace was unused to carrying children, so the added support stopped her from stumbling. As they walked to the back of the station, Grace heard Olivia grumble about being too stubborn to let her carry Liam instead.

It wasn’t that Grace was being stubborn. She just couldn’t let go of Liam right then. It hurt just to think about the distance. After they settled into their hotel room, Grace finally drifted off to sleep, not waiting for her mother.

Accidentally Raising The CEO's Baby Chapter 7 Return To His Family

She held him close until he calmed down. She wrapped him in a fluffy towel folded on the bathroom rack. She held him for a little longer until she was sure he was okay. Then, she helped him get dressed.

Once they were done, she gathered their belongings and reached for his hand again. After crying in the bathroom, Liam seemed to have recovered well. He had to let all the emotions bottled up in his body out slowly. She knew it would take a long and painful amount of time before he felt better, though.

Grace couldn’t imagine what he was feeling. When his father left, at least she had her mother and the home she had grown up in. Liam had nothing but the clothes Grace had found him in. He was barely a toddler and couldn’t speak clearly. She was shocked by how well he was taking everything. But she wasn’t going to deny that there would be awful times and tantrums coming in the near future. She wondered if it would be best to get him therapy when he was settled. He would definitely need to go to the hospital to get an extensive checkup.

The thought of a future made her stop. What was she doing making plans for Liam and her when she didn’t know for sure if she would see him tomorrow? His family could be found that day or the next. Hell, it could be a whole year or never at all. What was she going to do? Was it worth it? This little boy already had her heart and she would be broken when he returned to his family.

She looked at his face and glimmering eyes and knew instantly that it would.

It would be worth it.

Accidentally Raising The CEO's Baby Chapter 8 New Baby

Early August, 2017

It had been two weeks since Grace found Liam, but no one had stepped forward to claim him. Olivia and Edward had finally announced their engagement. They chose to get married on the 1st of January, just over five months later. The explanation for their decision was short and understandable. They had known each other for a really long time and were deeply in love. They didn’t want to wait any longer.

Around that time, Edward started spending more time at the Newman house. Grace was finally getting to know Edward and having him around was better for Liam, who needed a guy to spend time with him for things he couldn’t open up to Olivia or Grace about.

Liam took no time to bond with the family, especially Edwin. Liam had found the older brother he had always wanted. Liam had also won over every female he came across, including Emma Harrison, with whom Grace had a bad relationship. With Gina and her parents coming over every so often, it was certain, everyone liked Liam.

Accidentally Raising The CEO's Baby Chapter 9 The Wedding

Grace knew it would be a way for Liam to remember his family in the long run and she wanted that for him. They would curl on in bed every night and talk a little before Liam fell asleep. Grace had a feeling that she knew these people through Liam. Even though she didn’t know their real names or what they looked like, she knew MeMaw was an amazing look who loved baking. PawPaw smelled of soil and flowers because he liked gardening when he was not a doctor. PawPaw was so nice that he made all his booboos feel better.

Grace couldn’t figure out if his grandfather was really a doctor or if Liam was using his imagination. She didn’t bring this up because it would upset Liam.

Liam mentioned an uncle ‘Ry’ who was funny and played with him. The person he spoke most about, though, was his father. Liam told Grace that his Daddy was his ‘best friend’. Of course, she was also his best friend. His Daddy read him stories every night and taught him to play the ‘lin.’

Grace wracked her mind to figure out what a ‘lin’ was, but based on his description, she couldn’t figure it out.

Grace noticed that he never spoke about his mother. Any time she brought the woman up, Liam refused to speak. He had opened up during his therapy session a little and Grace got the image of a mother who wasn’t around much.

And when the woman was around, she was mean and upset with Liam all the time. Just the little they knew about the woman was proof enough of why Liam didn’t enjoy speaking about her. Also, it made Grace mad.

She was often thankful for the therapists  sending Liam to the adjoining playroom so that Grace could speak about her own feelings to the other. Grace had to control herself so that Liam had all the support he needed.

Accidentally Raising The CEO's Baby Chapter 10 The Cheating Boyfriend

Mid-January, 2018

Grace drove down the road that led to Jarred’s house. She had put off breaking up with the man for the longest time, mulling it over and thinking of ways to evading the fallout for as long as possible. But she couldn’t put off breaking up with Jarred any longer.

In the beginning, being alone made Grace feel more comfortable. But in the last couple of months, when she saw less and less of him, it was the first time since they started dating that Grace was sure she was uncomfortable with her relationship with Jarred before. It was time for them to break up. More so because Jarred held animosity toward Liam unlike everyone else who flocked to the little boy and showered him with love.

Jarred saw Liam as an outsider encroaching on his time and though she felt horrible for choosing, she did end up choosing Liam in the blink of an eye.

Olivia knew what Grace had planned to do and promptly took Liam and Edward for the biweekly grocery shopping trip. Not only would Grace have time to break up in a way that felt right to her, but also give her the space needed to process what she did afterward. There wasn’t a lot they had planned to do that day, but Olivia didn’t want to plan a lot of things in case Grace needed her.
