It was my paying day, and I was the most excited person on Earth, I had my hopes high and I knew just what I wanted to do with the money I earned in the month of working. I had graduated from the University with a first class degree in Bachelor of Arts and was immediately hired at the publishing company after my service. I dressed up in my only working shirt which was white and black trousers, I had my hair cut low so I only need to brush in it. And made my way to the hospital first to see my mother, she was suffering from cancer and it had been managed till now.
I was going for my pay and it was enough to pay for her operation and the loan on our house.
I walked into the ward she was laid and saw her sleeping soundly with the oxygen pipe on her face. I walked slowly towards her and images of my energetic and smiling mother and felt years cropping up in my eyes. I hurriedly cleaned them up, she wouldn't like to see the tears in my eyes. Her whole body looked pale and a little lifeless but I had hopes that it would be the last time I would be seeing her like that. I walked towards her and took her hand in my mind and sat down beside her.
She opened her eyes slightly and looked in my way, a smile cropped on her face after recognizing me. She removed her hand from mine and I stared at her in surprise but she then took mine in hers and stared straight into my eyes. Tears cropped up in her eyes and I stood up and cleaned them, she removed the oxygen cap slightly and spoke in an exasperated voice,
"You all will be okay, don't worry about me and live your life in peace. If I don't make ..."
I shook my head towards her and she only smiled and continued,
"I don't want you to pay for the operation, use that money to pay the loan on the house and pay your sisters fees. I won't make it even if you go ahead with the operation, I know it in my heart. I... dream about ... your father ... every night... it's my time to leave... and I know it."
She breathed slowly so I kept the cap in its place. I had wet my shirt with tears even though I knew it wasn't right for a man to cry that much but I couldn't control the emotions that were running through my body. I got up and gave her a peg on her forehead and let out to her.
"I am not giving up on you. I have hopes and I trust in our creator, he will help us. I will be back, I am going for the money, as soon as I get the alert, I will be coming here for you. So, please get prepared to be Hale and hearty."
She shook her head but I wasn't ready to listen to whatever she had to say any longer, she had to get healed and I wasn't having anything else. I walked out of the hospital and a few steps from there, I received the alert of my payment. And so, I decided to go to the bank and come back to the hospital before coming to the hospital. I got there and transferred the operation money to the hospital and transferred some to my friend Amos, whom I owed a lot of money.
As I was on my way back to the hospital, I heard my phone ringing right at the entrance. I removed the phone from my pocket and saw that it was my manager at the workplace calls, I picked up the call and he asked me to get to work as early as possible. I had not added a certain part to a script I was working on the day before and I had to add it up in thirty minutes before it would be submitted.
I looked at the hospital and the time and thought of what could happen if I didn't go to work. But then, my mother needed to survive after the surgery but without work, I couldn't make that happen so I chose to rush to the workplace and back to the hospital as early as I could. But I had to take the bus if I wanted to achieve my aim of rushing to and back. I rushed to the bus stop and an angel stood right in front of me, she had her dark shiny hair let down flowing like a wavy storm on the sea.
A scarf was wrapped around her neck and she wore a simple casual big dress showing no skin but her face, but it couldn't hide her curves. I couldn't see her face but my heart couldn't stop beating at the sight of her in my presence, I got a strong will to see her face. I took a step forward but suddenly a small boy stood up from the waiting chair at the stop and came to her side and held her hand. And his words took me by surprise,
"Mom, when is the bus coming, my sister seems to be tired.
"Mommy is sorry, but you will have to wait for a few sec..." she looks down and replies
"Ahh, here it comes." She says in an amused voice as she hears the sound of the approaching bus.
This breaks me out of my thoughts of her and brings me to reality, I rush to the bus as soon as it stops and enter without looking back at her. I looked in her way as soon as I sit down on one of the seats at the back of the bus but then, unfortunately, she was already walking away. Beside her is another child and a school bag on her shoulder.
'Are those two children her children? And why am I even concerned about her having children when I didn't even see her face? What if I did? What will I do then? Chase after her?'
She senses someone pass by her and hurriedly enter the bus, her sight follows him until he sits down and just as she is about to see his face, the child beside her pulls her hand. She looks down at him and they turn away from the bus and walk away, she pushes her straying hair from her face and sighs,
'who was that guy? No man has ever caught my attention apart from my husband. Unfortunately, I only got to see the sideline of his face. What a perfect looking man, no wonder the girls around him in the bus were ogling at him. Wow, wow, Mira, what am I even thinking? I should hurry away from I miss the next bus and get burnt alive by him.'
Before I knew it, we were already at my works stop, I rushed down and made my way to the building. As usual, the place boomed with various people both ladies and gentlemen and various computers. They were busy typing away to meet their deadline, I looked up and just like that, my eyes met hers. As kick as seconds, she looked away and touched her cheeks, if I didn't know better, I would have thought she was blushing. But then she was my boss, Linda Meyers, of the Meyers Group of Publishing Companies.
I was walking to my seat when I heard someone call me,
"Hey, Errr... Boston right? Come up here, I have something I need you to do for me."
I turned around and sees that it was my boss that was speaking to me and she knew my name. I looked around and sees that I am not the only one surprised but my coworkers were looking at me as if I had used some voodoo on my boss.
